Tartans tell the story of people and places through their distinct colors and patterns. In the official New York City Tartan, for example, green represents Central Park, blue for the rivers, red for the creative spark of the city, and black for the fallen twin towers. In others, I have integrated fragmented traditional clan tartans into watercolor paintings of the depopulating Scottish isles.
